Visas

Please note that citizens of certain countries need a visa to enter Germany. If you need a visa, we encourage you to register early. You may need the e-mail confirmation of acceptance to the conference for a visa application.

Arriving by plane

Arrival at the airports Berlin Schönefeld (SXF) or Tegel (TXL), Hannover (HAJ), Leipzig-Halle (LEJ) or Frankfurt (FRA).

• Airports Berlin:

  From the airport Berlin-Tegel, there is a frequent bus service X9 to Berlin's main train station Zoologischer Garten ("Bahnhof Zoo"). It takes about 20 minutes.

  From the airport Berlin-Schönefeld there are trains every 30 minutes to Zoologischer Garten. They take about 20 minutes. There are various other connections from Berlin-Schönefeld to Magdeburg that you may find.

  From Zoologischer Garten there are direct connections to Magdeburg which take about 90 minutes. There may be some connections via Stendal, which may be a detour.

• Airport Hannover:

  From Hannover airport there are a direct bus and the S-Bahn (suburban train, Line 5) going to Hannover Hauptbahnhof. It takes about 20--30 minutes. Most connections are direct, a few require a transfer in Braunschweig (or -- with a small detour -- in Stendal). The travel time is about 90 minutes.

• Airport Leipzig-Halle:

  From the airport Leipzig-Halle take bus line 300 directly to Halle Hauptbahnhof, 25 minutes of travel time. You could also take bus line AIR to Leipzig Hauptbahnhof, 20 minutes of travel time, but this may be a detour.

  From Halle it is about 60 minutes, depending on the train. All connections are direct.

• Airport Frankfurt:

  From Frankfurt Airport it takes about 4 hours by train. Note that the airport has two train stations and make sure that you go to the right one for your connection. You take a train to Frankfurt(Main) Hauptbahnhof. From there, one has many trains with a convenient transfer in Braunschweig. When checking the train schedule make sure that you are NOT looking at Franfurt(Oder) which is east of Berlin.

Once you have arrived, you can continue by Taxi, Public Transport or on foot (25 minutes walking).

• Taxi:

  Departure in front of the main entrance (Willi-Brandt-Platz). Destination: Universitätscampus, Pfälzer Straße.

• Public Transport:

  Here is a map of the trams and busses in Magdeburg (for daytime services). More detailed maps of the surrounding area of the central station and university are:

  • Central Station (east side),
  • Central Station (west side),
  • University.

  There are two possibilities to start and three possibilities to get off the tram:

  • from the tram stop Hauptbahnhof (in front of the main entrance, Willi-Brandt-Platz) you may take number 8 (direction Neustädter See) until the tram stop Universität,
  • from the tram stop City Carré (left of the Cinemaxx) you may take number 1 (direction Lerchenwuhne) until the tram stop Universität,
  • from the tram stop City Carré you may take number 4 (direction Cracau) or 6 (Herrenkrug) until the tram stop Allee Center, then go towards the department store Karstadt (diagonally across Allee Center) and take tram number 1 (Lerchenwuhne), 8 (Neustädter See), 9 (Neustädter See) or 10 (Barleber See) until the stop Universität or tram number 2 (Alte Neustadt) until the stop Pfälzer Straße or tram number 5 (Messegelände) until the stop Listemannstraße.
  From the tram stop Universität, you go across the campus to the Building 29, from the stop Pfälzer Straße, you go slightly back and from the stop Listemannstraße, you turn left and cross the big junction (then the Building 29 should be on your right hand side).

• Walking

  From the main entrance (Willi-Brandt-Platz) leave the station towards Cinemaxx. Turn right into the Ernst-Reuter-Allee. On the first junction (Otto-von-Guericke-Straße, shorter way) or second junction (Breiter Weg, nicer way) turn left. In both cases, continue until Universitätsplatz (big roundabout). Turn right into the Walther-Rathenau-Straße. Follow this street until the next junction. Turn left into the Gustav-Adolf-Straße. The building on your left hand side is the conference place. Arriving by car

• Via motorway A2 (from direction Berlin or Hanover), exit 70 Magdeburg Zentrum, follow the signs for "Zentrum", continue until the exit to the B1 (Walther-Rathenau-Straße) in direction Burg, follow the B1 until Universitätsplatz (big roundabout), keep right – do not enter the tunnel.
• Via motorway A14 (from direction Halle/Leipzig), exit 105 Magdeburg Sudenburg, Zentrum, follow the signs for "Zentrum", continue until the exit to the B1 in direction Burg, then as above.
• Via the B1 from the west go until Universitätsplatz as above, leave the roundabout after a 3/4 turn (towords "Zoo", Gareisstraße), at the first traffic light turn right into the Henning-von-Tesckow-Straße, go along the park on your left hand side, on the next roundabout take the first street to the right (Pfälzer Straße), after the pedestrian crossing turn left onto the parking area of the faculty.
• Via the B1 from the east (from directions Dessau or Burg) cross the two bridges over the river Elbe, at the second traffic light thereafter turn right into the Pfälzer Straße, turn right immediately after the building on your right hand side.
