Title: | Standing-in for a Hammer A Computational System for Tool Substitution: Preliminary Results |
When a robot is operating in a dynamic environment, it cannot be assumed that a tool required to solve a given task will always be available. In situations like these, an effective way for a robot would be to find a substitute (as humans do) rather than wait until the tool becomes available. This skill is significant when dealing with an uncertain environment because it will allow robots to adapt to unforeseen situations to a degree. In this paper, we have presented an approach to determine a substitute using association rule learning techniques encoded in Answer Set Programming (ASP).
The paper discusses the preliminary results of the proposed approach which primarily involves the computation of a substitute given ontological knowledge about objects.
