Title: | Prototype vs. Release Version – Lessons Learned from Developing Scone and Other Research Software |
While trying to convert SCONE from a proof of concept to an easily usable release version of the software, I stumbled upon a few architectural pitfalls, making the conversion unnecessarily hard. As these pitfalls also reflected experiences from the development of other research software, this talk serves the dual purpose of documenting the development efforts currently put into SCONE, as well as helping other developers to possibly avoid these pitfalls when trying to evolve a prototype to a proper software release.
This means the talk is especially suitable for master students with an interest in learning about some of the challenges that working on a larger code base entails.
